Connecting with people living in care homes through Craftivism
The idea for this small pilot came from discussions amongst the Dementia Craftivists – people with dementia living in the community who, since the start of the global pandemic, have been using craft to send messages and show that ‘they still can.’
The Dementia Craftivists were keen to reach out to, and make relationships with, those with dementia who are living in care homes.
This project took place between October 2020 and March 2021. A partnership between Innovations in Dementia (ID) and NAPA, it was funded with a grant of £5,000 from the Rayne Foundation. This paid for staff costs and for a modest amount of crafting equipment (which was sent out in packs).
Because of the pandemic, all activity has been conducted over ZOOM. However it is hoped that this may change soon, and some face to face contact may be possible.
Here is a film about the Craftivists’ project with care homes.
