Pathways is a support group for those affected by young onset (working-age dementia) in the Bradford District. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 6.30 – 8.30pm and provide information, contact and support in a non judgemental, supportive, fun environment. We have regular speakers and activities as well as a chance to chat to others in a similar situation. We also have social outings and an annual supported holiday.
We particularly want to influence service providers in Bradford who are ‘stuck in their old ways’. We also want to influence the Dementia Strategy Board in Bradford and feel we (people with dementia and their families) have more of an equal say.
We are currently awaiting news regarding funding to purchase cage cricket equipment after having a very successful taster session. During this session, every member joined in – all were equal – people with dementia, carers and volunteers. This led us to apply for our own equipment and money for some training.
We link closely with the Friends Together group who are a group of people with dementia and carers and former carers. The group provides coach trips and holidays.
We are also closely linked to Memory Tree, they run a series of support groups across Bradford for both people with dementia and carers.
Many of our members are involved in research at University of Bradford and Leeds Beckett University as well as projects based in others across the country. This is considered an important part of our group’s activities.
We welcome anyone who lives with dementia and who developed the symptoms of dementia at working age. Partner/carers of people living with young onset dementia. Anyone who lives with dementia, has a family member with dementia or an interest in dementia can join our Facebook group.
Please note that Pathways is currently meeting online (August 2020)
