Gouache painting: Arctic Circle Night
This little 30-minute piece is from my imagination and was me playing and experimenting with the colours and materials.
It is my first attempt with gouache paint.
What I did was spray watercolour paper with black gesso, then a very weak wash of patches of red, blue and yellow. Then, taking a thick brush and white, I created the swirling clouds which reacted with the washes underneath. Finally, the last 10 minutes was used to paint the trees, the shoreline and the water with the moon and its reflection – the photo makes it more yellow than the painting where it’s whiter.
